Derwent Hall, Darwen, Friday 18th September
With the support of our local UNISON Health and Local Government Branches, Blackburn and District Trades Union Council is pleased to once again welcome Banner Theatre at a free social and cultural event this September, in the Derwent Hall, Darwen.
“A Just Transition: Jobs, People, Planet” brings together live music, song and filmed interviews to explore how a worker-led transition to a climate-friendly world is not only possible — but necessary. The show weaves together interviews with activists and powerful stories of collective worker-led resistance and innovation. It highlights the GKN workers in Italy who occupied their factory and worked with climate activists to develop plans for socially useful, green production. It also marks the 50th anniversary of the Lucas Plan, when aerospace workers in the 1970s developed over 150 proposals for socially useful alternatives to arms production.
Banner Theatre is a Birmingham based multidisciplinary performing arts company with an unparalleled 50+ year history of close collaboration with & representing the real lives of working-class people in struggle through: music, theatre, storytelling, oral history, interviews & video montage.
