Blackburn and District Trades Union Council is a local body of the TUC comprising delegates from Trade Unions with members working or living in the Boroughs of Blackburn with Darwen and the Ribble Valley. We aim to give Trade Union members a local voice and influence on issues affecting local workplaces and communities and on questions of social and economic policy.
We stand for: Reclaiming and Repairing public services……Reversing privatisation……Improving living standards……Expanding public housing……Funding the NHS……Making the welfare system less punative……Rejecting racism……Founding a national care service……Deploying state intervention to invest in economic growth…..Securing workers’ rights……Abolishing poverty…….Reducing inequality.
Alongside our “Facebook Page” this website is a place where we provide information about our activities and policies, alongside news about our meetings.
We do not offer representation in individual case work -that is the responsibility of our constituent Trade Unions. Bear in mind that most Unions have a “membership model” and generally do not offer support to new members in respect of pre-existing problems – that would be like running a road rescue service on the basis that you could just ring up and join when you happen to break down!
If you are not in an “organised workplace” and need help to find the right Trade Union you should try the TUC’s UnionFinder tool: Join a union | TUC.
