The annual “Hazards” conference, held at Keele University, is one of the key events of the Trade Union calendar. Bringing together Health and Safety Representatives and workplace safety specialists and activists, it makes an essential contribution to building their capacity and morale, and is always invested with a tremendous sense of shared purpose to make workers’ lives better.
The 2025 conference saw over 220 activists, from 19 different unions, take part in person, with a small number also joining online. Amongst them was our own representative, John Murphy, whose Report we received at our November Trades Council meeting.
The Conference had “plenary” sessions on “Can AI ever be good for our health?”, “Dealing with Violence and Stress at Work”, and “Workers Health Crisis amid a lack of Enforcement”, alongside a number of “workshops” on specific isues, such as “Working in Extreme Weather” and a range of “fringe” events.
John’s Report is available here to download:
And you can also find here: 36th Hazards Conference 2025 Report Back the record made by GM Hazards, that also contains numerous follow up links.
We encourage local Branches to begin thinking already about the possibility of sending a representative to next year’s conference, which will again be at Keele University, from the 4-6 September 2026.
